Travelers in the New River Valley this weekend are reminded to expect heavy traffic on Interstate 81 and Route 460 due to Virginia Tech’s graduation activities. In particular, drivers need to use extra caution in Montgomery County on northbound and southbound I-81 at mile marker 128, near the Ironto exit. Due to repairs on the bridges over the South Fork of the Roanoke River, I-81 motorists will encounter a work zone with concrete barrier wall and two narrowed travel lanes in each direction. The speed limit in the work zone is reduced to 55 mph. Traffic alerts for I-81 and Route 460 can be obtained by dialing 511 or visiting online at www.511Virginia.org. For more information, contact Jason Bond at (540) 387-5250. |
